Lakeside Area

The Lakeside Area is a thriving multi-use community with roots in the 1960’s. At that time the area was agricultural with only a few small industrial sites. Following Omaha’s path of westward suburban growth, home construction began and commercial and office development gradually followed. A small lake and park were set aside as green space, and the neighborhood soon became known as the Lakeside Area.

Today it encompasses  land between Pacific Street and West Center Road, from the Papio Creek west to 180th Street and includes over ten housing developments. A thriving commercial section along both sides of West Center Road from 168th Street to 180th Street is the site of numerous restaurants/bars, shops and boutiques, as well as a popular “big box” store. And one of Omaha’s most popular local grocery chains has a full service facility in the development.

The most noticeable presence in the area is the Lakeside Alegent Creighton Health Community. It is a 157 bed acute care hospital with a medical office building and wellness center attached. Other ancillary medical services, especially those needed by seniors, are available in offices and facilities nearby, thus making the total complex a major employer in the area.

Homes in the area are typical for the Omaha suburban area—two stories, ranches, tri-levels and split entries. They vary greatly in size, age and amenities with price ranges from the mid $100,000 to the low $300,000 range. New construction is still available in the 180th Street corridor and the pride of ownership is evident in the landscaping and upgrades of many of the older homes. Neighborhood associations function separately in their activities and local governance issues, but also cooperate in school organizations and major situations affecting the entire Lakeside community.

Two popular suburban school districts service the area. Homes east of 168th Street are in the Millard School District and homes west of 168th are in the Elkhorn School District. Each district has a highly rated elementary school within the Lakeside Area, and middle and high schools for each district are a short drive away.

The Lakeside Area is a vibrant, popular home site for families—especially those looking for homes in a mid-priced range with good schools.
